We are a South Sudanese organisation committed to advancing peace, justice, human rights, humanitarian protection, and sustainable community development.
Rooted in Community Action & Institutional Resilience
Outreach Initiative, also referred to as OI, is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation headquartered in Juba, South Sudan.
The organisation was established in response to the urgent needs of people living through conflict, displacement, poverty, violence, exclusion, and humanitarian crises.
We work directly with affected communities and collaborate with government institutions, civil-society organisations, local leaders, international organisations, United Nations agencies, donors, and development partners.
Our Core Role
Our role is not only to respond to immediate needs. We also help communities develop the knowledge, systems, relationships, infrastructure, and opportunities required to become more peaceful, inclusive, resilient, and self-reliant.
A Future of Well-Being and Harmony
We envision increased well-being and harmony in the lives of people experiencing conflict, displacement, poverty, injustice, and vulnerability.
We seek a South Sudan in which communities can live peacefully, exercise their rights, access justice, participate in development, and build secure and dignified futures.
Alleviating Suffering and Creating Lasting Hope
Our mission is to alleviate suffering, nurture long-term development, and bring hope to the people and communities we serve, regardless of age, gender, religion, ethnicity, nationality, or social background.
We achieve this through inclusive programmes that respond to immediate challenges while strengthening the ability of communities to lead their own recovery and development.
Responding to Crisis, Building for the Future
Outreach Initiative was established out of a recognition that communities affected by conflict and displacement require both immediate support and long-term solutions.
Humanitarian assistance can protect lives during an emergency, but sustainable recovery also requires peace, justice, livelihoods, functioning infrastructure, social cohesion, accountable leadership, and community participation.
Our programmes therefore connect relief, protection, recovery, peacebuilding, and development. We help communities address present challenges while building the capacity to withstand future shocks.
Why South Sudan
South Sudan is a country of extraordinary cultural diversity, resilience, and potential. At the same time, many communities continue to experience the effects of conflict, displacement, poverty, weak public services, human-rights violations, and climate-related disasters.
These challenges can disrupt education, livelihoods, healthcare, housing, food security, community relationships, and access to justice.
We are passionate about working in South Sudan because we witness both the challenges communities face and the determination they demonstrate in overcoming them. Their experiences strengthen our commitment to addressing the causes of instability and inequality while supporting practical solutions that improve lives.
